In a strongly worded statement, the council insisted that no external power can compel Nigerian Muslims to abandon Sharia, which it described as a complete way of life covering spiritual, moral, social and legal matters.

OTA, Ogun State, Nigeria – Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has declared divine judgment on bandits and their sponsors operating across Nigeria.

IBADAN, Nigeria — Commuters on the Ibadan–Ijebu Expressway are in panic after suspected bandits ambushed travellers on the evening of April 18, 2026, killing one person and abducting several others.
NaijaChoice News gathered from eyewitnesses that the gunmen suddenly blocked vehicles along the busy route near Onigambari area in Oyo State, forcing drivers to stop before dragging passengers into the surrounding bush. One traveller was shot dead during the attack, while an unspecified number were whisked away.
6. FG Files 13-Count Treason Against Six Coup Plotters in Abuja
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against six persons accused of plotting to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The defendants are retired Major General Mohammed Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Victor, serving Police Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Goni and Abdulkadir Sani. They are accused of waging war against Nigeria, treason and acts of terrorism.
7. Ogun Police Arrest Four Suspected Cultists in Ilaro, Recover Weapon & Loot
ILARO, Ogun State, Nigeria – The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four suspected cultists in Ilaro for assault, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms. NaijaChoice News reports that the suspects – Samson John, 25; Olufowora Michael, 28; Odeh Samuel Ejeh, 25; and Olajide Jeremiah, 28 – were picked up by operatives of the Ilaro Division.

Nollywood actor and politician Yul Edochie has taken a direct swipe at Peter Obi, insisting the former Anambra State governor cannot become President of Nigeria at this time.
Edochie, a known supporter of President Bola Tinubu, described Obi’s ongoing coalition talks with the African Democratic Congress as “dead on arrival” and a complete waste of time.
9. Dangote Refinery To Start Crude Oil Production
The Dangote Group has achieved first oil from its upstream assets in the Niger Delta and is set to begin pumping marketable crude in the coming weeks.
Vice-president Devakumar Edwin told Platts, part of S&P Global Energy, that early testing is already under way on crude from the company’s Niger Delta licences. He confirmed the firm has opened a well and started standard testing, which should wrap up in the next three to four weeks at most.
10. Cross River Confirms Fresh COVID-19 Case, Chinese Victim Hospitalised
The Cross River State Government has confirmed a fresh case of COVID-19, raising concerns about a possible resurgence of the virus in the state after nearly three years without a recorded infection.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing in Calabar, the state capital.
