1. Hamzat, Yayi, Alli May Emerge APC Consensus Governorship Candidates

The All Progressives Congress is moving toward a consensus arrangement to settle on Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Lagos State.

Similarly, the party stakeholders are said to also favour the senator representing Ogun West and Chairman, Senate Appropriations Committee, Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for Ogun State, and the senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, for Oyo State.

The purported decisions emerged from a meeting of APC stakeholders from the three states with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Sunday night.

2. Adeleke Outperforms APC’s 12-Year Rule Despite LG Fund Seizure — Lawmaker

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ayedaade/Isokan/Irewole Federal Constituency of Osun State, Hon. Lanre Oladebo, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke has outperformed the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administrations in the state.

Oladebo made the remark while receiving his Accord Party membership card, marking his official defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He noted that despite the alleged withholding of local government funds by the Federal Government, Governor Adeleke had delivered more impactful governance within three and a half years than the APC did during its 12-year rule in the state.

3. PDP NEC Ratifies Congresses, Reaffirms Zoning as National Convention Looms

The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has ratified the outcomes of its ward, local government, state and zonal congresses held across the federation.

NaijaChoice News reports that the 107th NEC meeting, which took place in Abuja on Monday, 23rd March 2026, described the exercises as peaceful, transparent and credible. The committee commended party leaders, electoral officials, stakeholders and members for their discipline and commitment to due process.

NEC also reviewed the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise and expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far. The party reaffirmed its push for a credible, technology-driven database and urged all members nationwide to complete the e-registration without delay.

4. APC Leaders Admit Challenges Ahead Of Convention

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, and the chairman of the party’s 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, Aminu Bello Masari, have admitted that there are challenges confronting the forthcoming convention, but said such are not enough to stop the event scheduled for this weekend.

Both Yilwatda and Masari told journalists in Abuja after leading the Environmental and Sanitation Subcommittee of the convention on a road march, tagged ‘Walk for a cleaner and safer environment’, on Monday.

5. Bayero University Kano Expels 171 Students Over Falsified Admission Credentials

The Senate of Bayero University Kano has approved the expulsion of 171 students over falsification of admission entry qualifications.

The decision was taken at the Senate’s 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, following an investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.

According to a statement published in the university’s weekly bulletin on Friday, the affected students were found to have presented falsified credentials during their admission process.

“The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), at its 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications,” the statement read.

6. ‘We’re On It’ – Power Minister Begs Nigerians Over Blackout

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has publicly apologised to Nigerians over the prolonged electricity outages that have gripped the country for weeks.

He spoke during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, admitting the crisis has piled fresh hardship on homes, businesses, schools and industries at the height of the dry-season heat.

“I want to apologise to Nigerians, officially now, coming from me as the Minister of Power, for this temporary issue that is leading to hardship being experienced, especially during this dry season, where there is so much heat everywhere,” Adelabu said.

“Businesses are being affected, schools have been affected, and industries have been affected. It is not our wish to find ourselves in this situation, but it is due to some factors that are actually beyond our control.”
