The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, says he is not in a position to oppose President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy come the 2027 general elections.
Otti stated this on Friday during the March edition of his monthly media chat, following a recent statement by the member representing Isialangwa North and South in the National Assembly, Ginger Onwusibe, who said the state governor would not oppose Tinubu’s re-election.
Reaffirming the statement, Otti said, “I am not in a position to oppose the candidacy of the President. I am not running for President.
2. El-Rufai Released On Bail By ICPC
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has secured temporary bail from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The commission granted the release on compassionate grounds so he can attend the funeral rites of his late mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai. She reportedly passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday.
An aide to the former governor confirmed the arrangement. His son, Bashir El-Rufai, broke the news on X, thanking well-wishers while hitting out at the conditions of his father’s continued detention.]
3. NAFDAC Destroys ₦939 MIllion Substandard Drugs In Anambra
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed fake and substandard drugs valued at over N939 million in Awka, Anambra State, as part of its ongoing regulatory crackdown on unsafe products.
The destruction, carried out on Friday at the Anambra State Waste Management dumpsite, involved seized items recovered from across the South-East and was supervised by NAFDAC officials.
The operation targeted expired, unwholesome, and falsified products, including medicines, food items, cosmetics, and medical equipment.
4. Delta Police Smash Drug Hideouts, Arrest 272 Suspects
Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing war against drug peddling and criminal networks in Warri and Ughelli.
Operatives, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stormed black spots and criminal hideouts across Warri South, Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas on March 25, 2026. The raids, driven by credible intelligence from the State Intelligence Department, targeted Ugbrumu and Jeddo communities.
Fifty-nine suspects, including 51 males and eight females, were arrested at notorious spots such as a bush bar and several hotels operating as brothels. Many of those picked up were suspected cultists already on the command’s watch list. Recovered items include codeine, crack cocaine, “loud”, “colos” and Indian hemp.
5. ‘We Do Not Seek One-Party State’ – Tinubu Insists
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that neither his administration nor the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is pushing Nigeria towards a one-party state.
The President made the assertion on Friday while addressing delegates at the party’s 8th national convention held at Eagle Square in Abuja.
Tinubu stressed that the APC would not tamper with the constitutional freedom of association. He said he remains committed to credible opposition parties that can hold the government accountable.
6. APC Convention: Bury Your Hate, Anger, Tinubu Doing Well – Senator Yari Tells Opposition Party
ABUJA – Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara State, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for pulling Nigeria back from economic hardship.
In a statement issued on Friday through his technical committee representative, Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi, Yari said the country is now on a steady path of progress under the Tinubu administration. He appealed to opposition parties to set aside hate and bitterness and recognise the gains recorded by the All Progressives Congress-led government.
Yari pointed to visible improvements in the education sector, noting that students no longer abandon their studies because of prolonged strikes or financial constraints. He also cited positive economic figures, including a drop in headline inflation to 15.06 per cent from a peak of 34 per cent, and foreign reserves now hovering around $50 billion.
7. 2027 Election: Showumi Warns Against Power Imposition
Segun Showunmi, a leading PDP figure in Ogun State and convener of The Alternative, has sounded a strong alarm against any imposition of candidates for the 2027 governorship election.
In a message released on Friday to mark the 2026 Lisabi Day celebrations, Showunmi insisted that true political legitimacy must rest on local consensus and not external dictation from outside the state.

Controversial cleric, Chukwuemeka Odumeje, has stirred widespread reactions on social media following his comments on DNA testing and paternity within marriage.
Speaking during a recent sermon, the Onitsha-based preacher advised men to refrain from conducting DNA tests on their children, describing the practice as contrary to Igbo cultural beliefs.
According to him, any child born within a marriage should automatically be regarded as belonging to the husband, regardless of biological paternity.
“Desist from doing DNA. It’s against Igbo culture. Any child born by your wife, regardless of who is responsible, belongs to you as long as nobody is coming out to claim it,” he said.
