To avoid Aso Èbi ( Taiwo Abiodun)
Beg them to lend you some money to pay for your child’s school fees . The response would be ” Sorry I don’t have“.
Go to them early in the morning and ask them to take your car as a collateral to lend you money for a good project , the response would be ” You came late, someone came before you“.
Tell them your ward or son won American Visa Lottery and he’s traveling out, Response is ” God will assist you. I have just bought an item“. No one will give you a cent!.
Now, tell them you want to bury your aged parents then they will flood your house with all kinds of business proposals or feasibility studies. They would ask you how much you need. They will come to you early in the morning to borrow you money. They will even give you 🐐, 🐄 🐔🍗🐔 on credit .Your house will be jam-packed by clothing retailers for aso ebí begging you to patronize them on credit.
Have you noticed that those collecting money pasted on the celebrants’ foreheads at parties are creditors who are ‘assisting’ the celebrants to collect their money?. Don’t mind them, the pickers are the celebrants’ creditors trying to recover their money as agreed.
Today Friday, many are at the Bus stations wearing aso ebí, ankóò ( Family uniform ) traveling to various places to celebrate . Then on Sunday morning or early Monday morning you would see them struggling to go back to their various stations .
The Family uniform/aso ebí will be won for only two or four hours for the celebration after that day it becomes useless. Those who got them on credit will be thinking about how to pay back. When their phone ring they won’t pick because the creditors are calling. They start evading their creditors.
Some would borrow money to buy the Aso Ebí , Family uniform clothes as if their lives depend on it.
In 1985 when my father kicked the bucket our house was besieged with all kinds of retailers selling all kinds of stuff from clothes to food materials . When these women couldn’t convince us to buy uniform,/ aso ebí clothes and for our friends they went to our mother to convince her but our mother knew the kind of stubborn twins we were, she said ” you know my twins are stubborn and nobody will pay“. That was how they all left with their tails tucked in-between their legs. Yes, we warned our mother not to have hands in aso ebí because it is gbèsè!!!!!
I was chatting with a Bursar years ago who told me that one of the students’ father came to the school to plead for more time to pay for his son’s school fees and when he asked him why the man didn’t pay on time ,the man’s response was embarrassing,he said ” I am one of the Chiefs in my town and I just celebrated my Special Meeting( Àjo) meant for Chiefs . That is why I cannot pay his school fees”..
A woman whose daughter gained admission to read Medicine was going from house to another begging for money to pay her daughter’s school fees when asked what she spent her money she saved on ,she said she used it to buy aso ebí from her friend whose son had just wedded .

Why should you place priority on aso ebí to your ward’s school fees?
Some would at all costs buy aso ebí in order to fulfill all righteousness from his / her friend yet if they ask the friend to assist in paying your children’s school fees they will not! .
A lot of women/ men have hundreds of headgears and caps , to them it is not ideal for them not to buy the Aso Ebí materials.
I have turned down many aso ebí telling them I didn’t have the money .
One of my friends told me he has over 500 caps made for occasions in his wardrobe. I asked him how many heads he has.
As I am writing this piece , many are still buying Family uniform,aso ebí, ankóò, buying clothes to satisfy their friends and above all not to be seen as being poor.
Don’t let aso ebí be more important than your children’s school fees.
Stop or reduce buying Aso Ebí so as not to be guilty of the garb.
Stop wearing Guilt Clothes because of Family Uniform .
