A fresh debate has erupted after Arise TV anchor Oseni Rufai reacted to comments made by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who urged Nigerian musicians to focus more on charity than luxury cars.
Speaking during the launch of the National Community Food Bank in Kogi State, the First Lady encouraged top entertainers, including Burna Boy, Davido, and Asake, to establish charitable foundations and support struggling Nigerians. While acknowledging that owning luxury vehicles is not wrong, she stressed that successful individuals should also give back to society.
In response, Oseni Rufai shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing a remarkably long convoy of government vehicles. He captioned the post:
“The president’s wife says musicians should buy less Ferrari and co and spend more for charity. Can govt officials also reduce their convoy?”
The video has sparked widespread discussion online. As the convoy passes, voices in the background can be heard expressing surprise at its length, questioning why such a large motorcade is necessary, while one person jokingly prays for similar success one day.
In this video, we examine the First Lady’s remarks, Oseni Rufai’s response, the convoy footage that has generated intense reactions, and the broader conversation about public spending, accountability, and shared sacrifice during Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Watch the video and let’s know what you think? Should government officials reduce the size of their convoys before asking celebrities and other Nigerians to spend less on luxury? Share your thoughts in the comments.
