AWGU, Enugu State, Nigeria – Thousands of residents from Enugu West Senatorial District turned out in massive numbers at the Awgu Local Government Secretariat field on Saturday, bringing activities to a standstill as they endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for second terms in 2027.
The crowd cited concrete projects, policies and interventions that have changed lives in the South East and Enugu State. In a bold gesture of commitment, they handed Governor Mbah a N100 million cheque to buy his nomination form and vowed to back the decision with their votes.
NaijaChoice News reports that Senator Osita Ngwu, who represents the zone, presided over the endorsement and made it clear the decision rested on visible results, not empty politics.
He pointed to the new Command and Control Centre improving security, Smart Schools in every ward, Type-2 healthcare facilities and upgraded roads, including the once-dangerous stretch from 9th Mile to Aguobu Owa that now takes minutes.
Ngwu added that Governor Mbah’s swift connection of Enugu to the centre has brought national benefits to the South East.
Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (rtd.), former military governor of old Anambra State, and Group Capt. Joseph Orji (rtd.), ex-military administrator of Gombe State, threw their weight behind the move, urging the leaders to sustain the momentum.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani warned the crowd to ignore one-term pledges from other aspirants, describing such promises as insincere. He stressed that Mbah’s track record of integrity and performance remains the best guarantee for Enugu West’s political future by 2031.
An obviously delighted Governor Mbah praised the people for upholding truth, justice and strategic thinking like their forebears. He listed Tinubu’s economic gains – stabilised foreign exchange, declining inflation, foreign reserves above $50 billion – that have given states and local governments more funds to deliver projects.
Motions for the endorsements were moved and seconded by federal and state lawmakers, including Hon. Sunday Umeha, Speaker Uchenna Ugwu and Hon. Toby Okechukwu. Traditional rulers, former deputy governor Cecilia Ezeilo, ex-minister Fidelia Njeze, APC state chairman Dr. Martin Chukwunweike and other stakeholders also spoke in strong support.
Governor Mbah pledged to keep delivering and assured the people that President Tinubu would not disappoint them.
