Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday hosted a delegation from the Enugu Polling Booths Vanguard for Atiku.
The group, led by Chief Obodoeze Ocho, is pushing hard to protect votes at polling units during the 2027 general elections. Members arrived with strong determination to make every ballot count.
NaijaChoice News reports that the delegation included ADC chieftain and veteran actor Kenneth Okonkwo, who joined others in performing lively Igbo cultural dance steps to show their energy and community backing. The display added a colourful touch to the meeting.
Atiku, who posted about the visit on his verified social media accounts, welcomed the initiative. He stressed that safeguarding votes at the grassroots level remains key to credible polls.
“This afternoon, I received the Enugu Polling Booths Vanguard for Atiku, a group chiefly concerned with the sanctity of the ballots, led by Chief Obodoeze Ocho. They believe that every vote must count in 2027,” Atiku wrote.
He told the delegation that active citizen participation is non-negotiable. “I told them that, for us to have credible elections that earn voters’ trust, citizens must take the responsibility of safeguarding votes seriously. Votes will count if they are protected by those who cast them.”
The meeting reflects growing efforts by political groups in the Southeast to mobilise for transparent elections. Nigeria’s history of vote tampering has made such vanguard movements popular in recent years.
Political watchers say the visit signals Atiku’s continued engagement with regional stakeholders as 2027 draws closer. Similar groups are expected to spring up in other states.
