Yoruba Nation Activist Sunday Igboho Issues 24-Hour Ultimatum to Apprehend TikToker Over Criticism of Tinubu Endorsement
Controversy is brewing in the Southwest after Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, allegedly directed his loyalists to bring in a popular TikToker within 24 hours. The move follows a viral video in which the content creator openly challenged Igboho’s recent declaration of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027.
NaijaChoice News reports that the directive came via a voice note now circulating on social media. In the recording, a voice believed to be Igboho’s instructed one of his aides: “Hello Adebas, both Alado and Funny Thinker, you must bring both of them to my house in Ibadan within 24 hours. If you don’t bring them to me, I swear to God, I can’t tell you what would happen.”
The TikToker in question is Wale Owokanpa Aburumoku, popularly called Funny Thinker. In his widely shared video, he took on Igboho directly, accusing him of overstepping by attempting to bar opposition figures like Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar from campaigning in Yorubaland. “Chief Sunday Igboho, you are the one that Bola Ahmed Tinubu granted freedom, not us,” Funny Thinker said. He added that while he appreciated Igboho’s gratitude to the President, threatening others was wrong and anti-democratic.
Funny Thinker further declared that Igboho’s comments had ironically pushed him toward supporting Obi’s right to campaign, despite not being his personal fan. “Of course, personally I don’t like Obi, but he has every right to campaign in Yorubaland and anywhere he wishes. With what you said, I would even start campaigning for Obi from today. Come and do your worst,” he stated.
The drama stems from Igboho’s public endorsement of Tinubu earlier this month. In a video that went viral, the activist said: “President Tinubu for a second term. We don’t want any Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar here.” He went further, claiming Tinubu “owns” the Southwest and suggesting that even after eight years, Nigerians should urge the President to continue in office.
When contacted by SaharaReporters, Igboho’s aide, Koiki, dismissed the voice note as “fake news” and insisted no such threat was issued by the chief.
The development has heightened political tension in the region ahead of the 2027 polls. Many observers see Igboho’s stance as a shift from his earlier Yoruba self-determination campaign, which once led to his high-profile arrest in Benin Republic before his eventual release.
Reacting sharply, the Yoruba Union (Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá) distanced itself from the activist. In a statement, the group said it “unequivocally” rejects Igboho’s “selfish act of abandoning Yoruba Nation agitation to campaign for APC.” The union stressed that the Yoruba struggle is built on sacrifice, not partisan politics or trading the blood of the people for personal gain.
As the 2027 election cycle gathers steam, the episode underscores deep divisions within the Southwest over loyalty, democracy, and the place of self-determination voices in national politics.
