Breaking: Sunday Igboho Makes Triumphant Return to Nigeria, Heads Straight to Olubadan Palace After Clearance from Wanted List

In a dramatic turn of events that has sent waves of excitement across the Yoruba nation, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, the fiery Yoruba Nation agitator, has returned to Nigeria after years in exile. Sources confirm that Igboho is currently en route to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, marking his first major public appearance since fleeing the country in 2021.

According to Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, the activist is traveling from his base in Benin Republic and is expected to arrive at the Olubadan Palace any moment now. “As I’m speaking to you, Chief Sunday Adeyemo is on his way to Olubadan place. He should be there any moment from now. You know he resides in Benin Republic and he is on his way to Ibadan to meet Olubadan today by special grace of God,” Koiki revealed in an exclusive interview.

This homecoming comes hot on the heels of Igboho’s removal from the federal government’s wanted list under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Koiki attributed the clearance to relentless interventions by prominent Yoruba monarchs, including the Olubadan, the Ooni of Ife, and the Olugbon, alongside political goodwill from leaders within and outside Nigeria. The spokesperson emphasized that the return is sanctioned by traditional and spiritual authorities, describing the Olubadan as Igboho’s “royal father.”

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, Koiki had announced the impending return, stating, “With the support of our royal father, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Dr. Chief Sunday Adeyemo is now free to return home. He is a free man and will soon be back in Ibadan.” The statement framed the development as a victory for advocacy and divine intervention, paving the way for Igboho’s full reintegration into Nigerian society.

Supporters of the activist have already begun gathering at his Ibadan residence in anticipation of his arrival, turning the area into a scene of jubilation and solidarity. Social media is abuzz with videos and posts celebrating the moment, with Koiki’s media handle sharing footage confirming Igboho’s scheduled appearance at the palace later today.

Igboho’s exile began in July 2021 following a deadly raid on his Soka residence in Ibadan by the Department of State Services (DSS). The operation, which resulted in the deaths of two associates and the arrest of several others, forced him to flee to Benin Republic. There, he was arrested while en route to Germany, sparking a protracted legal battle that kept him out of Nigeria for over four years.

His case became a symbol of the tensions surrounding separatist movements in Nigeria, particularly the push for Yoruba self-determination amid security concerns in the Southwest. Igboho rose to prominence in early 2021 for his campaigns against Fulani herders accused of criminal activities in Yorubaland, issuing eviction notices that drew both support and controversy.

Now, with his name cleared, Igboho’s visit to the Olubadan Palace is seen as a ceremonial step in his reintegration, potentially signaling a new chapter in Nigeria’s discourse on regional agitations and national unity. As of 4:18 PM WAT, reports indicate he may arrive imminently, with some sources suggesting an entry around 4:20 PM.
