Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing war against drug peddling and criminal networks in Warri and Ughelli.
Operatives, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stormed black spots and criminal hideouts across Warri South, Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas on March 25, 2026. The raids, driven by credible intelligence from the State Intelligence Department, targeted Ugbrumu and Jeddo communities.
Fifty-nine suspects, including 51 males and eight females, were arrested at notorious spots such as a bush bar and several hotels operating as brothels. Many of those picked up were suspected cultists already on the command’s watch list. Recovered items include codeine, crack cocaine, “loud”, “colos” and Indian hemp.
The following day, March 26, DCP Adejobi led another team from the Crack Squad, Rapid Response Squad and Buffalo Squad into Ughelli town. They hit Epini Hotel along the Ughelli-Patani Expressway, Torsac Hotel and Primaria Guest House, all known for drug-related activities.
Two hundred and thirteen suspects were rounded up in the second operation. Several hotels were found harbouring prostitutes and providing cover for criminals. Large quantities of Canadian loud, CSC syrup, tramadol, swinol and Indian hemp were seized.
All suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division Ughelli, officers of the Rapid Response Squad and the CP Special Assignment Team for further investigation and prosecution.
NaijaChoice News reports that the Commissioner of Police has vowed to sustain the momentum across Delta State, including Sapele and its environs. He assured residents that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, urged members of the public to keep supplying timely information to help dismantle criminal networks and make the state safer for all.
This latest clampdown comes as authorities intensify efforts to check the rising wave of substance abuse and cult-related violence that have troubled communities in the Niger Delta for years. Residents in Warri and Ughelli have long complained about the link between brothels, drug joints and street-level crime.
The police say the operations will continue until criminal elements realise there is no hiding place in Delta.
