Blord’s lawyers has come out swinging against social media personality VeryDarkMan (VDM), shooting down claims that the businessman’s legal team has been begging for his release from Kuje Correctional Facility.
The sharp rebuttal came hours after VDM posted a video alleging that respected figures like Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface and musician Phyno had personally reached out to him, pleading on Blord’s behalf. VDM further claimed Blord’s lawyers were also making frantic behind-the-scenes moves to settle the matter and secure bail without opposition. But the lawyer has now dismissed the entire narrative as false.
Speaking out, the legal practitioner made it crystal clear he has no interest in trading words publicly with VDM. “I am a learned individual and cannot be seen dragging issues with a layman. I am too big to be involved in such controversy,” he stated, according to sources close to the matter.
He went further in a direct quote that has now gone viral: “Blord only came out to claim he trademarked ‘Ratel’ just to get under VDM’s skin. In reality, he never actually trademarked it. This whole fight wouldn’t have escalated to this level if VDM hadn’t rushed to the police, crying that Blord used his name for criminal activities.”
The lawyer insisted the entire issue between the two was supposed to remain an online banter and should never have been taken to the police or the courts. “This matter was never meant to leave the internet. It only got to this point because of VDM’s actions,” he added.
The development is a direct slap to VDM’s earlier claims that Blord’s camp was secretly pleading for leniency. It also throws fresh light on the long-running feud that began months ago over the name “Ratel”.
Recall that VDM had trademarked “Ratel” back in 2024, a name his loyal fans proudly adopted as their identity. Blord, whose real name is Linus Williams Ifejirika, later launched a fintech app called Ratel for bill payments, airtime, and crypto transactions. In January 2026, Blord announced he had trademarked the name and directed his Senior Advocate of Nigeria to issue a cease-and-desist letter ordering VDM to stop using it without permission. VDM fired back, accusing Blord of forgery, false claims of a ₦500 million ambassadorial deal, and using his name for shady activities.
The tension boiled over in early April 2026 when VDM’s police petition led to Blord’s arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The court remanded the businessman in Kuje Prison for 26 days, meaning he spent the Easter period behind bars. Activist Omoyele Sowore had earlier waded in, criticising the arrest and pushing for Blord’s freedom.
VDM’s latest video, which circulated widely on Nairaland and social media platforms over the weekend, showed him claiming Boniface called him directly to beg for the case to be dropped, while Phyno allegedly made similar appeals on stage. He also said Blord’s lawyers confirmed Sowore granted interviews without their client’s full consent and that bail proceedings might sail through smoothly.
But the lawyer’s no-nonsense response has now flipped the script. Many online observers are already calling it a major blow to VDM’s narrative, with some arguing the activist may have overstated the level of desperation from Blord’s side.
As the drama continues to unfold, Nigerians are watching closely to see if the matter will finally head to full trial or if a quiet resolution is still possible. Blord remains in custody for now, while VDM has not yet issued any fresh response to the lawyer’s statement.
