ADC Youth Leader Resigns Over Social Media Attacks

ABUJA, NIGERIA — Sultan Ahmed Bello has resigned as the Acting National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by Hon. Nafi’u Bala Gombe.

In a resignation letter addressed to Gombe and made public on Friday, Bello cited persistent insults and hostile attacks on social media linked to his role in the faction. He said the attacks, which included harmful prayers directed at him and his family, had become unbearable.

Bello specifically referenced a disturbing public statement that invoked divine punishment, wishing that Allah deal with him and his entire family in the manner of Pharaoh and his people at the Red Sea. As a devout believer who values the power of prayers, he stated that he could no longer ignore the weight of such utterances.

“I hereby resign from my position as Acting National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), effective immediately,” Bello wrote.

The resignation letter, dated from his Abuja residence on No. 43 Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, thanked Gombe for the opportunity to serve but stressed that his personal peace and family’s well-being take precedence.

Political observers in Nigeria note that internal wranglings within opposition parties like the ADC often spill into the public domain, especially on social media, where supporters of rival factions trade words without restraint.
