IBADAN, Oyo State — The Accord Party has accused prominent political figures and opposition parties of political impersonation following the unveiling of a coalition in Ibadan.

National Chairman Professor Chris Imumolen demanded immediate clarification from Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Seyi Makinde, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the unauthorised use of the Accord Party’s name and flag.

According to the party, the inclusion of its symbol in the Ibadan coalition was not an error but a deliberate misrepresentation.

Prof. Imumolen stated that the Accord Party is not part of any alliance with the ADC, PDP or any related bloc, and never granted permission for its identity to be used.

“This is not an oversight; it is a misrepresentation. The Accord Party will not be dragged into alliances it neither negotiated nor approved,” he said.

The party warned that the development raises serious doubts about the credibility and transparency of the coalition, especially if it relies on parties not present at the meeting.

Reaffirming its stance, the Accord Party declared it remains focused on contesting the 2027 general elections with its own presidential candidate under its independent banner.

Prof. Imumolen issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the conveners and participants of the Ibadan meeting to publicly explain how and why the Accord Party’s identity was used without consent.

He warned that failure to provide explanation within the timeframe would lead to immediate legal action against all individuals and groups involved.

“You cannot borrow legitimacy by force. Those responsible must either explain themselves or prepare to defend their actions in court,” the chairman added.

The Accord Party stressed it will protect its identity, structure and political independence against any attempt, subtle or brazen, to appropriate its platform.

As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 polls, the development highlights the growing tensions within opposition ranks and the need for transparency in political alignments.

NaijaChoice News reports that the party’s firm position underscores its determination to chart an independent course in the unfolding political landscape.

This ultimatum could reshape conversations around coalition-building as major actors position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
