Fuji music star Saheed Osupa has finally broken his silence on the growing rift with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. The singer made the disclosure in a new video after his headline-grabbing performance at the governorship declaration of Senator Sharafadeen Alli in Yemetu, Ibadan.
NaijaChoice News reports that the event, which took place last Friday, saw Osupa throw his weight behind the APC aspirant ahead of the 2027 governorship race. He openly dismissed the ruling party’s “Omituntun 3.0” slogan and labelled the governor “onijibiti,” a Yoruba term widely understood as a strong accusation of betrayal.
The Fuji icon did not stop there. He urged the people of Oyo to reject any candidate linked to the current administration and instead rally behind Alli, describing him as the right choice for the state. The remarks sent the crowd into a frenzy and quickly went viral across social media.
In the fresh video circulating online, Osupa gave a detailed account of what led to the bad blood. He recalled playing a major role in Makinde’s 2019 campaign, performing at several PDP rallies after negotiations for proper reward once victory was secured.
“ They gave me musical work for the governor’s rally in 2019 and negotiated the job, stating they would ‘do me well’ after winning the election,” he said. But according to the singer, everything changed the moment the mandate was obtained.
Osupa claimed the administration turned against him and refused to settle the agreed payment for his services. He added that his vehicle was damaged during one of the campaign stops, with officials promising a replacement that never materialised.
The musician stressed that his position stems from personal experience rather than politics alone. He called on members of the public to make proper inquiries before rushing to judge him.
Oyo State politics is already heating up for 2027, with major parties positioning themselves early. Fuji musicians like Osupa have long held sway in Yoruba political gatherings, often using their platforms to shape public sentiment.
As the dust settles on the Yemetu declaration, many residents are watching to see how the PDP will respond to the public jab from a former campaign supporter turned critic.
