ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the Supreme Court judgment delivered on Thursday, April 30, 2026, which nullified the controversial National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.
In a statement issued on April 30, the PDP BOT described the apex court’s decision as an affirmation of earlier rulings by the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal. The judgment, according to the trustees, confirms that the Ibadan convention and all structures that emerged from it lack legal backing.
The BOT, positioning itself as the conscience of the party, said it fully respects and accepts the Supreme Court verdict. It stressed that the leadership of Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as National Secretary remains the only valid authority at the national level.
“The legal position remains clear and unambiguous,” the statement noted.
The PDP BOT emphasised that the party continues to operate normally through its recognised organs in line with its 2017 Constitution (as amended). It assured members that necessary constitutional steps would be taken to strengthen unity and prepare the party for future electoral battles.
As part of efforts to heal rifts within the fold, the Board advised the National Working Committee to immediately set up a National Reconciliation Committee to reach out to all aggrieved members across the country.
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, signed the statement and urged all party faithful to remain focused, united, and committed to the party’s ideals.
NaijaChoice News reports that this development is expected to bring clarity to the lingering leadership crisis that has troubled the PDP since the disputed Ibadan convention, even as the party positions itself as a major opposition force ahead of future polls.
The judgment reinforces the need for internal discipline and collective resolve as the PDP seeks to reclaim its historic role in providing credible leadership to Nigeria.
