PRP Calls Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso to Unite Under its Flag

The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has called on key opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to unite under its platform to rescue Nigeria’s democracy from further fragmentation.

Lagos State PRP Chairman Mr James Adeshina made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday. He spoke shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed the names of Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as national chairman and secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from its official portal on Wednesday.

NaijaChoice News reports that Adeshina, a former chairman of the Lagos State Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), described the ADC leadership crisis as a clear sign of deeper problems plaguing opposition politics. He warned that continued infighting only opens the door for the ruling party to dominate unchecked.

“The political landscape is once again witnessing turbulence within the ADC,” Adeshina said. “What should have been a strong alternative platform is now caught in internal disputes and uncertainty. This is not just unfortunate; it weakens the collective ability of opposition forces to offer credible alternatives.”

Adeshina noted that both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ADC are battling serious leadership wranglings capable of derailing their 2027 ambitions. In contrast, he positioned the PRP as a stable, ideologically consistent option free from such internal rancour.

The PRP chairman reminded Nigerians that his party, founded 47 years ago and rooted in the legacy of Mallam Aminu Kano, remains one of the country’s oldest surviving political platforms. It has operated with discipline and unity while many newer parties continue to splinter.

He extended a direct invitation to Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rauf Aregbesola and other stakeholders within the ADC and beyond. “This is not about abandoning your ideals but preserving them in a more viable structure,” Adeshina stressed.

According to him, Nigeria does not need multiple weak opposition parties but one strong, united front capable of challenging the status quo and restoring political balance. He described the ADC crisis as a wake-up call for leaders to rise above narrow party loyalty and embrace a broader national agenda.

Adeshina expressed confidence that the PRP has the capacity to win the 2027 presidential election and even the Lagos State governorship if opposition forces rally behind it. He urged stakeholders to act decisively before it is too late.

The fresh twist in the ADC saga follows months of coalition talks by major opposition leaders seeking a common platform against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Political observers say the PRP’s intervention adds another layer to the realignment already shaping the pre-2027 landscape.
