I Took Over Leadership from Myself; Late Buhari Is Me, He Was My Partner – Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared his administration a direct continuation of the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
The President made the remark on Friday while hosting the 36 state coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. He stressed that there was no real break in leadership when he took office in 2023.
“The truth is I took over from myself. The late Buhari is me; he was a partner. If I took over from him, is that not from myself?” Tinubu said.
He described Buhari as more than a predecessor, calling their bond a political partnership that shaped the All Progressives Congress (APC) era.
Tinubu then turned to critics who question the impact of his reforms. He pointed to visible gains in infrastructure, human capital and the economy.
“If they don’t want to see the hope in the roads we have built, in the children we have raised, or in the economy we are growing, we will give them eyeglasses,” the President added.
The statement comes as the Renewed Hope agenda pushes key projects in roads, education and economic recovery. Tinubu urged Nigerians to focus on long-term results rather than short-term complaints.
NaijaChoice News reports that the comments have already triggered debate on social media and among political observers, with some hailing the emphasis on continuity while others see it as a bold redefinition of the transition.
The President’s message reinforces his commitment to sustaining the APC’s vision for a stronger Nigeria.
