APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda has declared that the All Progressives Congress now holds over 13 million registered members across Nigeria.
He revealed that 50 percent of these members, roughly 6.5 million, are between 18 and 35 years old. This, he said, confirms the APC as the most youthful party in the country.
Yilwatda made the statement on Tuesday while speaking on the party’s ongoing electronic membership registration drive. NaijaChoice News reports that the chairman stressed the strong belief young Nigerians have placed in the APC and its current leadership.
The figures emerge barely months after the party launched its nationwide digital registration exercise. Early results had shown over two million new members verified within the first week, with coordinators pushed to capture every eligible Nigerian.
Nigeria’s population remains one of the youngest globally, with more than 65 percent under 35 years. Analysts say this demographic reality makes youth support central to any serious political calculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party officials believe the verified data from the electronic system will improve mobilisation and ensure only genuine members participate in future primaries and congresses.
Critics, however, have questioned the claims on social media, describing the numbers as inflated or difficult to verify without full public disclosure.
Still, the APC insists the youthful tilt reflects genuine grassroots interest in the ruling party’s programmes and direction.
The development comes as the party prepares for internal reforms and positions itself to defend its dominance in most states and the National Assembly.
