Lagos, NIGERIA – Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan or VDM, has announced he will temporarily stop posting on his platforms.
NaijaChoice News reports that the decision follows growing criticism that his viral content is pulling the attention of Nigerian youths away from pressing demands for government accountability.
In a statement shared online, VDM said the move is meant to allow young Nigerians to focus fully on protests and holding the APC-led administration responsible for national issues.
“I have decided not to post again on social media these period so that the youth can focus on protest and holding APC government accountable,” he stated.
The influencer, who describes himself as the “online police,” added that he expects celebrities, other activists and content creators to fill the gap and keep pushing discussions on governance during his absence.
VDM maintained that the break is a direct response to public views about the massive engagement his posts generate and how they may be shifting focus from core political activism.
The 32-year-old, who boasts millions of followers across Instagram and other platforms, has built a reputation for calling out corruption, celebrity scandals and poor governance since bursting onto the scene in 2022.
His latest announcement comes at a time when many young Nigerians continue to demand better economic policies and transparency from the current administration.
Supporters and critics alike are already reacting to the development, with some hailing it as a selfless move while others question if the break will truly redirect online energy towards street-level activism.
VDM has not given a specific date for his return.
