Sokoto Lawmaker, Senator Lamido Quits APC for ADC in Sokoto

SOKOTO, Nigeria – Senator Ibrahim Lamido, who represents Sokoto East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to the APC chairman in Isa South Ward, Isa Local Government Area, the lawmaker blamed persistent internal leadership crisis in the state chapter for his decision. He described the move as one not taken lightly.

Lamido said the ongoing suspicion, unfair leadership style and lack of cohesion within the Sokoto APC had made it impossible for him to remain a member in good conscience. He added that persistent divisions and unresolved disputes had badly hindered the party’s progress and unity.

The senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Primary Healthcare, Development and Disease Control, thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve. He wished the party well in its efforts to resolve its challenges and regain unity.

NaijaChoice News gathered that Senator Lamido is now set to pick up his membership card with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The resignation comes as Sokoto East continues to grapple with security challenges, including banditry in areas such as Isa, Sabon Birni and Rabah. Many residents have repeatedly called for stronger action from both state and federal authorities.

Political watchers say the development reflects growing unease within the ruling party in Sokoto ahead of future polls. It also highlights how internal wrangling can push elected officials to seek new platforms.
