Prominent Sokoto-based Islamic scholar Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of abandoning the Muslim community after using their support to win the 2023 presidential election.

NaijaChoice News reports that the cleric dropped the bombshell during his Eid sermon on Friday in Sokoto. He described the Muslim-Muslim ticket as nothing but a political strategy to grab power, stressing that Muslims and the entire northern region have seen no benefits from the current administration.

“Tinubu won the election in 2023 using the Muslim-Muslim ticket, but presently Muslims are suffering under him. He is not after Muslims or Islam,” Professor Sokoto said.

He added that the northern region, which is predominantly Muslim, is not a priority for the president. “What he is only after is Lagos, and even in Lagos, his allies are the Christians,” the scholar declared.

Professor Sokoto cautioned fellow Islamic clerics against using religion to promote Tinubu in future campaigns. He urged them to focus only on concrete achievements, if any.

The cleric told Nigerians to support the president solely if his government has delivered on education, healthcare, agriculture, business, the economy and electricity supply.

“Whosoever will campaign for Tinubu should tell us what he did for us. But if there is nothing to campaign for him with, we should be allowed to try other candidates, maybe we can get relief,” he added.

NaijaChoice News reached out to the Presidency for reaction to the allegation last night but calls and messages to presidential spokespersons were not returned as at press time.
