Peter Obi Can’t Defeat Tinubu Even in Free, Fair Election – Gehgeh Sparks Massive Debate

Social media is buzzing after popular Nigerian commentator Gehgeh dropped a bombshell, claiming that African Democratic Congress’s Peter Obi stands no chance against President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections, even if it’s conducted free and fair.

Gehgeh, known for his no-holds-barred takes on politics and society, shared his views in a viral video that has racked up thousands of likes and comments across platforms like Instagram and TikTok. “Peter Obi can never win Tinubu even in a free and fair election,” he stated emphatically. He backed his claim with four key reasons, highlighting what he sees as Obi’s weaknesses in the political arena.

First, Gehgeh pointed out that Obi lacks the necessary political structure to mount a serious challenge. “He na leader way get vision but he not get path on how to reach that vision,” he explained, emphasizing that without a solid grassroots network, Obi’s ambitions remain just talk.

Second, he noted that many Nigerians are still unclear about Obi’s current political affiliation. “Many people up till now never know the political party where Peter Obi belongs to,” Gehgeh said, suggesting this confusion weakens Obi’s appeal.

Third, Gehgeh argued that Obi’s popularity has dipped since the 2023 elections. He described Obi as a “social media president,” implying his support is more online hype than real-world votes. “Peter Obi doesn’t have the same clout he had in 2023,” he added.

Finally, contrasting Obi with Tinubu, Gehgeh praised the president’s organized machinery, including early mobilization and visible grassroots efforts. “Tinubu’s political machinery is more organized and visible,” he said, pointing to it as a game-changer.

The video, posted on February 22, 2026, quickly spread across social media, with mixed reactions pouring in. Some users agreed with Gehgeh, like one commenter who said, “Full support for you… this OBI can’t win president in Nigeria even say no be Tinubu day power.” Others fired back, insisting that in a truly transparent election, Tinubu wouldn’t stand a chance. “If the 2027 election is truly free and fair, Tinubu no fit win Nasir El-Rufai sef, not to even talk about Peter Obi,” one critic responded.

NaijaChoice News gathered that this debate comes as Nigeria gears up for the 2027 polls, with Obi remaining a vocal critic of the current administration and hinting at another run. Supporters of Obi, often called “Obidients,” have dismissed Gehgeh’s comments as biased, recalling how Obi shook the political landscape in 2023 by winning key states like Lagos and Abuja against expectations.

Political analysts reached by NaijaChoice News suggest this highlights the ongoing divide in Nigerian politics, where structure and strategy often trump popularity. “Even if the entire 36 state governors decamp to APC, Peter Obi can still defeat Tinubu if he gets the right platform,” countered analyst Mojeed Dahiru in a related discussion.

As the conversation rages on X and other platforms, one thing is clear: Gehgeh’s words have reignited the fire around Obi’s potential comeback. Will structure win over vision? Only time – and the voters – will tell.
