Terrorists have invaded Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, the hometown of Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, killing two people and wounding the local security chief known as Olu-Òde.
The attack happened on Wednesday evening when heavily armed gunmen stormed the community, shooting sporadically and trying to overrun a nearby police post before moving from house to house and breaking doors.
Residents who spoke to NaijaChoice News described the assault as a full-scale invasion that left the community in total panic.
One eyewitness said the attackers would have killed more people but for what he called divine intervention.
“We are calling on all Oro-Ago indigenes, both at home and abroad, war has started in Oro-Ago. It was only God that saved me; I would have been a victim,” the resident told NaijaChoice News.
Another voice from the community begged for urgent military help. “The terrorists have killed people in Oro-Ago. We are begging the government to please bring soldiers. This situation is not a small thing. They have broken all our doors; they are entering houses one by one.”
Residents turned their appeal directly to Deputy Governor Alabi, accusing him of failing to protect his own fatherland while based in Ilorin.
“We call on the deputy governor not to sleep. Your fatherland and hometown have been destroyed, and you are sitting in the state capital. Help us,” one resident pleaded.
Some even called for Yoruba nation agitator Sunday Igboho to step in. “Help us call on Sunday Igboho to come and rescue us,” another added.
The violence has forced many families to flee. Communities including Ahun, Oke-Oyan, Ago-Olomo, Ajegunle, Omugo and Oke-Daba now stand empty as fear grips the entire Ifelodun area.
NaijaChoice News notes that the attack came days after the Kwara South Joint Security Watch issued a public alert over planned terrorist operations targeting Ifelodun, Irepodun and Isin local government areas.
The warning, released last Saturday by Elder Oyin-Zubair, specifically flagged possible strikes on March 23 and March 28, 2026, and urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious movements.
Security agencies, including the Kwara State Police Command and the three local government chairmen, were formally notified at the time.
As of the time of this report, neither the Kwara State government nor security agencies have issued any official statement on the Oro-Ago attack.
NaijaChoice News made repeated attempts to reach the police and other relevant authorities for comments but received no response.
The incident has further exposed the growing insecurity in Kwara South Senatorial District, where repeated bandit activities continue to displace farming communities and test the resolve of both state and federal authorities.
