A man known as Shawama, who sparked outrage after claiming he killed 32 people in Ibadan, has now begged the Oyo State government for forgiveness. In a fresh video that surfaced hours after police announced a probe, he insisted the confession was fake and meant only to “catch cruise.”
Shawama told viewers he has never hurt a soul in his life. “I have never hurt anybody in my life, not to talk of killing 32 people. It’s all cruise and play. Oyo State government, please forgive me,” he pleaded.
The U-turn came after his original clip went viral. In it, the self-described political loyalist boasted that he eliminated 32 people when rivals tried to “misbehave” in Ibadan. He added that police and soldiers who caught him later freed him and praised his actions. He ended by declaring support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, calling him “our oga.”
NaijaChoice News gathered that the Oyo State Police Command moved quickly. Spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the command has no record of Shawama or any such mass killings. Detectives are now using digital forensics and footprint analysis to trace the video and identify everyone involved.
Public reaction has been swift and divided. Many residents of Ibadan expressed shock at the initial claims, while others dismissed the entire episode as typical social media drama. Security sources say investigations remain active to determine if the statements amount to incitement or public nuisance.
As the probe continues, Oyo police have appealed to anyone with useful information to come forward. Shawama’s dramatic flip has once again highlighted how quickly viral videos can rattle public peace in the state.
