Ado-Ekiti – Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State is banking on his first-term achievements and strong public demand to secure a second term in the June 20, 2026 governorship election.
The Director General of the Biodun Oyebanji Campaign Organisation, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, made this clear at the campaign council’s maiden press conference on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti.
Senator Fasuyi, who represents Ekiti North, said the governor is aiming for at least 500,000 votes and victory across all 2,445 polling units, 177 wards and 16 local government areas.
He added that Oyebanji will officially flag off his campaign on April 27 with a grand rally at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in the state capital.
The senator stressed that the re-election bid rests squarely on verifiable performance. Roads have been fixed in every local government and LCDAs, schools renovated with teachers trained and bursaries restored, while health centres now boast new equipment and staff.
Ekiti now ranks as Nigeria’s most secured state, according to recent security reports. The administration also posted perfect scores in transparency indices for 2024 and 2025, recorded the lowest food inflation in the country, and revived farm settlements alongside the ongoing Ekiti Knowledge Zone project.
Senator Fasuyi reminded stakeholders that his predecessor, Dr John Kayode Fayemi, had challenged Oyebanji to surpass his record – a target the governor accepted and delivered on from day one.
The campaign, he said, will be issue-based, door-to-door and street-to-street, with every APC member acting as a canvasser. “We will market our record and our plan, not abuse opponents,” Fasuyi declared.
Former Presidential Adviser Senator Babafemi Ojudu, who attended the briefing, hailed Oyebanji’s purposeful leadership and effective security architecture. He described the 500,000-vote target as realistic given the governor’s performance.
NaijaChoice News gathered that the press conference drew APC elders, State Executive Council members, House of Assembly lawmakers and other party leaders. Senator Fasuyi urged the media to verify projects on ground and report facts, promising the campaign council will provide data for every claim.
