The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has unanimously adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The announcement came during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting of the party, where Governor Dapo Abiodun formally declared the endorsement, paving the way for a united front ahead of the polls.
In a statement expressing heartfelt gratitude, Senator Adeola (Dr. A. Remo), who holds qualifications including FCA, FCTI, CFA, SFI, and a PhD, thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his visionary leadership and commitment to the progress of the APC and the nation.
He equally appreciated Ogun State Governor His Excellency Dapo Abiodun, CON, and elder statesman Baba Akinkunmi Segun Osoba for their guidance, support, and confidence in his ability to serve the state.
The Ogun West Senator also extended sincere appreciation to all party stakeholders, leaders, and faithful members of the APC in Ogun State for finding him worthy of the consensus ticket.
“This honor is deeply humbling, and I do not take it for granted. I pledge my total commitment to the ideals of our party and to the service of the good people of Ogun State,” Senator Adeola stated.
He vowed that together, they would build on existing achievements, ensure a successful and united campaign, and deliver greater progress for all residents of the state upon victory in 2027.
Senator Adeola, born on August 10, 1969, in Lagos to parents of Yewa and Egba extraction in Ogun State, brings a wealth of legislative experience to the race. He previously served in the Lagos State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and as Senator representing Lagos West before moving to represent Ogun West Senatorial District in 2023. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations and is known for his grassroots politics, constituency projects, and oversight roles in national budgeting.
The development is seen as a strategic move to ensure power rotation, with many noting it as the first time a candidate from the Yewa axis would be positioned to lead the state if successful. Party members and groups, including the Ogun-East Assembly for Yayi and various progressive movements, have already thrown their weight behind the endorsement, hailing it as a unifying decision.
Political observers believe the consensus arrangement will minimise intra-party friction and strengthen the APC’s chances in the 2027 election, building on the foundation laid by the current administration under Governor Abiodun.
Senator Adeola concluded his message with prayers: “God bless Ogun State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.“
As preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum, all eyes remain on Ogun State, where the APC appears set for a smooth succession process.
