A Kano-based legal practitioner, Barrister Abdulsalami Ginsau, has died after spending hours trapped inside a hotel elevator in Abuja.
Reports reaching NaijaChoice News indicate the incident happened on Tuesday. The lawyer was stuck in the lift for a prolonged period and suffocated before help could reach him.
No details have emerged about the specific hotel involved. Neither the hotel management nor the police have issued any official statement so far.
Senator Shehu Sani confirmed the tragedy on social media. He described the case as pathetic and wondered whether power failure to the lift, a technical fault, or plain fate caused the death.
The former lawmaker prayed for the deceased, saying may Allah grant him Aljanna Firdausi.
The incident has triggered fresh worries about safety standards in hotels and public buildings across the Federal Capital Territory. Many Nigerians blame frequent power outages and poor maintenance culture for such avoidable accidents.
As investigations are expected to begin, NaijaChoice News will provide further updates on the matter.
