The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation into the disturbing allegations of rape made by popular TikToker Mirabel, following a viral video where she detailed being assaulted by an unidentified man in her Ogijo residence. Mirabel, known on TikTok as @mirab351, shared her ordeal in a series of emotional videos posted on February 16, claiming the incident occurred on February 15, sparking widespread outrage and calls for justice under hashtags like #StopRapingWomen.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police acted swiftly upon learning of the video. “Upon receiving information about the incident, the command directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ibafo Division, to immediately reach out to the victim,” Babaseyi stated. He explained that Mirabel reported to the Ibafo Police Station on Wednesday, where preliminary details were gathered, revealing the alleged assault took place within the Ogijo jurisdiction.

Babaseyi further noted that due to her fragile state, Mirabel was promptly escorted to a medical facility for assessment and urgent care. After initial treatment, she was transferred to the Ogijo Police Station for proper documentation and to advance the investigative process. “Given her fragile condition, the victim has since been referred for extensive medical care to aid her recovery and to support the ongoing investigation,” the spokesperson added, emphasizing the command’s commitment to her safety, wellbeing, and the pursuit of justice.

Reports indicate that Mirabel attempted suicide by ingesting Sniper shortly after the alleged incident, leading to her hospitalization. Friends and supporters have rallied around her, with one close associate confirming to media outlets that she is now stable and responding to treatment.

The case initially drew attention from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which appealed for help in locating Mirabel to provide support. However, upon confirming the location fell under Ogun State’s jurisdiction, the DSVA forwarded all relevant information to the appropriate authorities there, expressing confidence in their handling of the matter.

Amid the investigation, social media has been abuzz with conflicting narratives. Some posts and reports suggest inconsistencies in Mirabel’s account, including claims of no forced entry, lack of neighbor corroboration, and her alleged refusal of full medical examinations. Rumors even circulated that she had been arrested for fabricating the story, with one viral X post alleging she was detained for providing false information and wasting police resources.

The police have firmly debunked these claims. When contacted, Babaseyi clarified, “The case is still under investigation, and in due time, we will get to know whether it is true or false but for now, we are still investigating.” He categorically denied any arrest, stating, “We did not arrest her, so she is not in custody. When there is an arrest, we will make it public.” Authorities have also addressed misinformation about deleted videos and donor refunds, urging the public to await official updates.

Neighbours in Mirabel’s compound have disputed her claims, with one telling reporters, “The rape did not happen. I did not hear any shout.” Despite these contradictions, the police insist the probe is ongoing and impartial.

As the investigation continues, advocates are calling for sensitivity in handling such cases, warning that false allegations, if proven, could undermine genuine survivors. The Ogun State Police Command has assured Nigerians of a diligent process to uncover the truth and deliver justice.
