I’m Almost 50 And Still Single, That Alone Is A Red Flag — Billionaire Keji Giwa

Nigerian billionaire businessman and visionary real estate developer Keji Giwa has set social media on fire after openly admitting he sees himself as a major “red flag” in the dating world because of his unmarried status as he edges close to 50.

The London-returned entrepreneur, best known as the brain behind Giwa Gardens — West Africa’s largest water park in Lekki, Lagos — and other landmark recreational real estate projects like The Carnelian and Bluewater Tourism Zone, made the startling confession during a candid interview clip that has now gone viral.

Speaking in the popular Instablog9jaTV series “A Day In The Life,” where he reflected on business, life, and love, Giwa did not mince words about how society views older single men, especially successful ones like him.

“I am single, almost 50… I would be surprised if you don’t consider me a red flag,” he declared, before adding that he could comfortably call himself a “walking red flag.”

Giwa, who built his empire after leaving tech startups in the UK to tap into Nigeria’s untapped recreational real estate and hospitality sector, explained that Nigerian culture puts heavy pressure on men to settle down by a certain age. Staying single this long, no matter how much money or success you have, automatically raises eyebrows.

He also opened up about relationships involving older wealthy men, pointing out that many times the pull is not looks or love, but something else entirely.

“The attraction is not that he’s good-looking. The attraction is some level of security,” Giwa said.

According to him, this kind of setup often leads to problems in marriage when the foundation is not real love. He warned that many women get close and quickly realise “not all glitter is gold.”

The businessman capped his remarks with a sharp observation about modern dating, saying one of the biggest walking red flags today is “the illusion that he has money when he doesn’t.”

The video clip has sparked wild reactions across Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Nairaland, with thousands of comments pouring in. Some netizens hailed Giwa for his refreshing honesty and self-awareness, while others joked that they would gladly “manage” that kind of red flag any day.

One social media user wrote: “Rich man no be red flag ooo!” while another laughed, “I pray for that type of red flag every day 😂.”

Others praised the UK-born Nigerian for speaking the truth many successful men avoid: “Self awareness on another level!”

Giwa’s bold take has once again thrown the spotlight on the tough societal expectations around marriage in Nigeria, where even billionaires are not spared the pressure and judgment that come with staying single.
