Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has described reports of a secret night meeting between social media influencer VeryDarkMan and Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as a complete waste of time, insisting the IGP is only panicking because his tenure as a policeman expires today.
NaijaChoice News reports that Sowore made the remarks during an interview following the adjournment of the bail hearing for Blord, who is currently remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre in a case involving VeryDarkMan.
Reacting to claims by Sahara Reporters that VeryDarkMan held a secret meeting with IGP Disu in Abuja to plot against him, Sowore said he had no personal knowledge of the alleged meeting but would not be surprised if it happened.
“I don’t know what happened, you should ask the Inspector-General of Police but if it’s true I think the Inspector-General of Police is probably trying to prevent us from discussing that his tenure expires today as a Policeman, maybe that’s what he’s panicked about,” Sowore stated.
He stressed that the IGP has the constitutional right to meet anybody he wants, noting that Disu had met with senior advocate Femi Falana last week. “But if he held a secret meeting because of me, that’s a waste of time. It’s not going to disturb the work we are doing. If he likes he can go and meet with Tinubu,” Sowore added.
The activist, who has been vocal in the Blord-VeryDarkMan feud, used the opportunity to renew his long-standing position against the oppression of citizens through security agency connections.
“Nobody in this country should be oppressed because other people have connections with security agencies. Even Tinubu brought me to court for calling him a criminal, he has connection with the DG of DSS too, but in court, when we asked the DG did Tinubu tell you to do this? He said NO, nobody sent him, he is just doing his work,” he explained.
Sowore warned that any attempt to target him would fail, recalling past assassination plots against him. He referenced the case of Ofoegbu Ijelespeaks, whom he bailed out of prison after the man confessed he was contracted to kill him during the Buhari administration.
“The person who contracted him confessed to me and Deji that they contracted people to kill me during Buhari’s time but since then have there not been other contracts? Wike contracted people, his spokesperson, that boy or man, also contracted another person to go after my family, my children,” Sowore revealed.
He maintained that such plots are normal for those fighting an unjust system. “So they will always do this as long as we stand on the side of justice, as long as we are up against a system that is not working in the interests of the people, they must connive, collude and conspire against some of us who are doing what is just but one thing we must tell them is that every lie has an expiration date,” he said.
Sowore concluded by reminding the IGP that today marks the end of his tenure. “The IGP must know that the expiration of his tenure is today, so we will take it from there so he can do as many meetings as he likes. What we believe in is what we believe in and that’s the position we will take.”
The development comes amid heightened tension in the VeryDarkMan versus Blord saga, where Sowore had earlier vowed to secure Blord’s release. Court proceedings for Blord’s bail were adjourned, prompting fresh accusations and counter-claims in the public space.
IGP Tunji Disu was appointed in February 2026 following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, and has since been confirmed as substantive head of the Nigeria Police Force.
