Controversial Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has boldly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, declaring that the Southwest region is firmly under Tinubu’s control and rejecting any push for opposition candidates Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar.
In a viral video making rounds on social media, Igboho left no room for doubt about his position. “President Tinubu for a second term. We don’t want any Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar here,” he stated firmly. He went on to boast that even after the completion of Tinubu’s eight-year tenure, Yoruba people would still plead with him to remain in power.
“Even after Bola Tinubu completes his eight years in office, we will still beg him to continue,” Igboho declared.

NaijaChoice News reports that the secessionist leader further warned against bringing any political discussions involving Atiku or Obi into the Southwest, insisting that President Tinubu “owns” the region and that continuity under his leadership is non-negotiable.
This latest endorsement comes barely a week after the Yoruba Union, also known as Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, publicly distanced itself from Igboho over his growing alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and open campaign activities for the Tinubu administration.
The union, in a strongly worded statement signed by Convener Olusola Badero and released through Home Director Princess Balogun, made it clear that it would have nothing to do with what it described as a betrayal of the Yoruba cause. The group revealed it had been inundated with inquiries from Yoruba people both at home and in the diaspora seeking clarification on any possible link with Igboho’s actions.
“We unequivocally distance ourselves from Sunday Igboho’s selfish act of abandoning Yoruba Nation agitation to come out publicly to campaign for APC and its agent, whose policies have pushed millions of our people into poverty and economic hardship while insecurity has taken centre stage,” the union stated.
The Yoruba Union stressed that the agitation for the emancipation and sovereignty of the Yoruba people remains rooted in sacrifice, commitment, and genuine dedication to the people’s welfare. It warned that the blood and suffering of hundreds of Yoruba citizens killed or kidnapped could never be traded for selfish political gains.
NaijaChoice News notes that Igboho’s dramatic shift has already ignited heated debates across social media platforms and YouTube channels, with many critics accusing him of abandoning the self-determination struggle he once championed. As the countdown to 2027 begins, this development has further deepened divisions within Yoruba self-determination circles, even as Tinubu’s allies hail it as a major boost for continuity.
