EKITI STATE, NIGERIA — Governor Biodun Oyebanji has expressed deep appreciation to the people of Ekiti State for their massive show of support during the official flag-off of his re-election campaign on Monday.
A large gathering of party faithful, national and state leaders, as well as ordinary residents, converged on the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, with hundreds more turning up at various locations across the state capital for the rally and related activities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji said he was humbled by the overwhelming turnout and the strong vote of confidence reposed in him and his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, for a second term.
The governor thanked God for the hitch-free conduct of the event and particularly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support, which he said has boosted development across Ekiti State.
Governor Oyebanji also acknowledged the voluntary contributions made by APC leaders and members in their various local government areas to ensure the success of the rally. He described the gesture as a clear demonstration of their commitment to the progress of the state.
“Monday’s flag-off was not only remarkable but a historic moment for our dear state,” the governor stated, while extending gratitude to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including National Chairman Prof Nentawe Yilwatds and other officers who graced the occasion.
He specially recognised several governors who attended or supported the event, among them Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, who chairs the National Campaign Council; Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma; Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo; and governors of Kogi, Ondo, Delta, and Niger states.
The governor further thanked former Ekiti governors — Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Engr Segun Oni, Chief Ayodele Fayose, and Dr Kayode Fayemi — as well as serving and former lawmakers, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders for their backing.
He singled out the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, HRM Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, and other prominent traditional rulers including the Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, and Ologotun of Ogotun-Ekiti for their warm reception of APC leaders.
Governor Oyebanji also lauded over 380 groups and associations that have endorsed his administration in the past year, alongside the State Traditional Rulers Council, labour unions, religious bodies, youths, market women, and the general populace for their sustained support.
As the campaign for the next governorship election gathers momentum, the massive turnout at the flag-off signals strong grassroots backing for continuity in Ekiti State’s leadership
