A disturbing video making the rounds on social media has left many Nigerians in shock after it captured a doctor allegedly beating a woman moments after she delivered her baby at Kinkole General Reference Hospital in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The woman, still bleeding heavily from delivery-related tears, lay vulnerable on the bed when the alleged assault took place. Instead of providing urgent suturing and care, the footage shows the medic turning violent towards her.
NaijaChoice News has monitored the rapid spread of the clip, which has drawn anger from users across Nigeria and beyond. Many have questioned how a healthcare worker could act with such disregard for a patient in her weakest moment.

The suspect has been identified as Dr David Balanganayi. Reports confirm he was taken into custody by judicial police following public outcry and an official complaint by an NGO.
Kinshasa’s Provincial Minister of Health described the incident as “deeply regrettable” and a clear breach of medical ethics. Authorities have since launched disciplinary proceedings, audits, and possible suspension of the doctor from the Order of Physicians.
Health rights groups in the region have condemned the act as a serious violation of patient dignity. They stressed that new mothers deserve compassion and professional care, especially during the critical hours after childbirth.
The case has reignited wider worries about maternal healthcare standards in parts of DR Congo. High maternal mortality rates and reports of poor working conditions for health workers continue to plague the system, even as conflict in other provinces adds pressure.
In Nigeria, where similar concerns about respectful maternity care persist, the video has sparked fresh debate online. Commentators on platforms like Nairaland urged African governments to enforce stricter training and oversight in hospitals to protect vulnerable women.
