LONDON, ENGLAND – Chelsea have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior, NaijaChoice News reports.

The club announced the decision hours after Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at Brighton, ending Rosenior’s spell after less than four months in charge. He arrived from Strasbourg in January on a five-and-a-half-year deal, having previously guided the French side under the same ownership group of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Rosenior oversaw just 11 wins in 23 matches across all competitions. The loss at Brighton extended Chelsea’s run to five straight Premier League defeats without scoring a goal, the club’s worst scoreless streak since 1912.

Travelling Chelsea fans directed angry chants at the team and coaching staff on the south coast. Rosenior later called the performance “indefensible” and “unacceptable”.

The result left the Blues in seventh place, seven points behind Liverpool who hold the final Champions League qualification spot.

In an official statement, Chelsea said Rosenior had always shown the highest integrity and professionalism since taking over midway through the season. However, the club added that recent results and performances had fallen below the required standards with plenty still to play for.

NaijaChoice News understands that Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Fulham head coach Marco Silva and former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic are among those under consideration as possible replacements. Iraola has already confirmed he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, while Silva’s contract at Craven Cottage expires in July.

Rosenior’s assistant, Calum McFarlane, will step in as interim manager until the end of the campaign. McFarlane previously took temporary charge after Enzo Maresca’s exit earlier this year.

His first game comes on Sunday when Chelsea face Leeds United at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final for a place in the final.
