The Corporate Affairs Commission has confirmed a cybersecurity breach involving unauthorised access to limited aspects of its information systems.
Management released a public notice on April 15, 2026, stating that the commission promptly activated response protocols after detecting the incident. It is now working with the National Information Technology Development Agency and other government partners to assess the scope and impact.

NaijaChoice News reports that containment measures are already in place while the full review continues. Additional safeguards have also been strengthened to protect the national corporate registry.
The CAC portal remains a critical tool for millions of Nigerian businesses. From name reservations and company incorporations to post-registration filings, thousands of SMEs and large firms in Lagos, Abuja and across the federation depend on it daily for legal recognition, bank accounts and contract execution.
Stakeholders have been urged to stay vigilant. The commission advised users to monitor their records on the portal closely, update login credentials immediately and watch out for any unsolicited communications that could be linked to the incident.
This latest breach highlights the rising cyber threats facing Nigeria’s digital infrastructure. Government agencies handling sensitive data have come under increased pressure in recent months, making the CAC’s quick response a significant step in safeguarding public trust.
The commission insisted the affected areas were limited and reiterated its commitment to the integrity of Nigeria’s corporate records. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
