Suspected armed bandits have reportedly attacked Sundu and Yanoko communities in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, abducting residents in both villages.

In Sundu, one person was taken, while in Yanoko, a woman was also abducted, according to eyewitness accounts shared by security analyst Bakatsine on Thursday.

The attackers struck under the cover of darkness, advancing silently through the villages and exploiting the lack of proper lighting and communication networks in the area.

“Bandits are able to operate freely because of gaps in local intelligence and poor rural policing coverage,” Bakatsine stated. “The lack of coordinated early-warning systems allows attackers to exploit darkness and limited communication infrastructure. Communities continue to call for stronger protection, but resources are often insufficient or delayed, leaving villages vulnerable.”

Bakatsine further noted that efforts to mobilise vigilante groups are often undermined by poor training and lack of formal support from the government. Residents now fear leaving their homes at night and are urgently calling for immediate state intervention to stem the tide of these attacks.

As previously reported by NaijaChoice News, Kano State has witnessed a disturbing surge in banditry, particularly in northern local government areas bordering Katsina State. Similar night raids in Tsanyawa, Shanono and other border communities over the past months have led to dozens of abductions, with some victims rescued by troops while others remain in captivity despite ransom payments. These incidents have heightened fears among farmers and rural dwellers who now struggle to tend to their fields or move freely after sunset.

Local authorities in Rogo have not confirmed the exact number of abducted individuals or reported any arrests in connection with the latest attack. Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain comments from the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, proved unsuccessful, as calls and messages to him remained unanswered at the time of filing this report.

Security experts warn that without swift deployment of more personnel, better intelligence networks and community early-warning mechanisms, rural communities across Kano risk falling deeper into the grip of these criminals. Residents are appealing to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and federal authorities to treat this as a matter of urgent public emergency before more lives are lost to the growing wave of rural insecurity.
