Armed Gang Terrorises LASU Road, Ojo in Daylight Robbery

OJO, LAGOS STATE – Panic swept through shops and streets along LASU Road in Ojo when a gang of armed hoodlums struck in broad daylight on Friday, robbing passersby and raiding businesses.

NaijaChoice News gathered that the attack hit the Iyana School and First Gate areas around 11am, leaving residents and traders running for safety.

About 15 men, dressed in black and some wearing nose masks, moved with guns and machetes, targeting people at random.

A resident simply identified as Omowunmi told PUNCH Metro the gang appeared without warning. “We just saw them coming from First Gate down to Iyana School. People were screaming and running while they snatched valuables,” she said.

The hoodlums forced their way into several shops, including a popular supermarket, and carted away cash and goods as traders either locked up hurriedly or fled.

Residents expressed shock that the operation lasted several minutes unchallenged, even with a police station barely three minutes away.

Pius Oleme, another eyewitness, said the delay left many in fear. “Business owners are now scared the gang could return anytime,” he told our correspondent.

An X user, @ThatOjoBoy, posted a video showing one of the armed men wielding a machete and harassing passengers in a moving commercial bus as chaos unfolded.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Adebisi confirmed to journalists that the violence started as a clash between two factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers over control of a bus park in the area.

She added that hoodlums hijacked the fight, but police later restored order and arrested one suspect, who has been handed over to the Command Special Squad.

The incident has again drawn attention to recurring security lapses in the Ojo axis, where transport union rivalries and street crime have troubled residents for years.
