ABUJA, Nigeria — The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has clarified its position on the 2027 general elections, stating that the party is backing only President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and not any aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.
National Coordinator of the APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, made the clarification in a press statement issued on Sunday.
Obigwe stressed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s declaration of “progressives working together” refers solely to the Anambra State government’s working relationship with the Tinubu administration.
He warned Anambra residents against being misled by campaign posters being circulated by some APC aspirants.
According to Obigwe, certain APC House of Representatives hopefuls have been sharing materials featuring images of President Tinubu, Governor Soludo, and themselves, claiming collaboration under the “progressives are working together” mantra.
The APGA chieftain described such moves as deceptive gimmicks that should be ignored by the electorate.
“APGA is unapologetically supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, but Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly elections in Anambra are a must-win for APGA,” Obigwe said in the statement.
He added that the party will field its own candidates for those positions and is determined to secure victory in them.
Obigwe explained that Soludo’s position as national leader of APGA centres on maintaining a cordial working relationship between the Anambra government and the federal administration led by President Tinubu.
This development comes amid growing political realignments in the South-East as parties prepare for the 2027 polls, with Anambra often serving as a key battleground.
NaijaChoice News understands that Governor Soludo is expected to lead campaigns urging Anambra voters to support Tinubu for president while backing APGA candidates for other seats.
Obigwe emphasised: “In Anambra, it is Tinubu for President, APGA for Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly seats.”
The clarification underscores APGA’s resolve to protect its political structure in its stronghold while extending selective support at the presidential level.
