Anambra Police Rescue Kidnapped Electrician, Arrest 3 Suspects, Recover ₦469,000

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped electrician and arrested three suspected kidnappers during a coordinated security operation in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the State.

The operation, which took place on the evening of April 18, 2026, was carried out by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, following credible intelligence.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the joint security team stormed a bush at Umuezeala Awuda Village in Nnobi, where the suspects were apprehended and the victim rescued.

The suspects (all men) arrested at the hideout were identified as Chidalu Obi (aged 25 years), Chichebem Ojenigbo (aged 26), and Chikannechukwu Eze (aged 20), all males.

The police said one locally made Beretta pistol was also recovered from the suspects, alongside a total cash sum of ₦469,000, believed to be ransom earlier paid for the victim’s release.

According to the Police Spokesman, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly lured the victim, an electrician, under the guise of offering him a job. However, upon his arrival at the agreed location, he was reportedly blindfolded at gunpoint and taken into the bush, where he was held captive.

The suspects, according to the police, have confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting the ransom, which was said to be transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of them.

The Command reiterated its commitment to combating criminal activities across the state and ensuring the safety of residents, while also urging members of the public to continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information.

The police also assured that further investigations are ongoing to uncover possible accomplices and bring all those connected with the crime to justice.
