The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fixed May 12, 2026, for the inauguration of its newly elected state executive committees and chairmen nationwide.
The decision, announced in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, comes barely 48 hours after the party held its state congresses across the country on Saturday.
NaijaChoice News reports that the ADC is pushing ahead with the exercise despite the Independent National Electoral Commission’s removal of its leadership from official records on April 1.
INEC’s action, which is still before the courts, had raised questions about the validity of recent party activities if the commission’s position is upheld.
The Mark-led ADC, however, described the congresses as peaceful, credible and in line with its constitution and the rule of law.
“The party is pleased to announce that the formal inauguration of the newly elected state executives is scheduled to take place on May 12, 2026, or on a later date to be duly communicated by the National Working Committee,” Abdullahi stated.
The party commended members and stakeholders for their orderly participation and urged the new executives to align fully with the leadership of National Chairman, Senator David Mark.
It also called on them to focus on strengthening the party’s structures and deepening engagement with Nigerians in every region.
The ADC expressed confidence that the new leaders would uphold unity, discipline and dedication to the party’s vision of providing a credible alternative ahead of future elections.
Stakeholders will be duly informed of any adjustment to the May 12 date, the statement added.
The development reflects the party’s determination to maintain momentum even as its leadership crisis with INEC lingers in court.
Senator Mark has repeatedly called for unity within the ADC as it positions itself as a major player in the political landscape leading to 2027.
