ABUJA, Nigeria – The African Democratic Congress has dismissed reports claiming it is holding talks with the Peoples Redemption Party ahead of an expected court judgment on its leadership dispute.

The party described the claims as false and misleading in a statement issued on Monday.

National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the ADC coalition leadership is not engaged in any conversation with any political party at the moment. NaijaChoice News obtained the statement, which was also shared on X.

The ADC insisted its immediate priority remains challenging what it called the illegal delisting of its leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission. It accused INEC and agents of the ruling party of undermining multiparty democracy.

ADC leaders, including former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, have positioned the party as a platform for opposition forces eyeing the 2027 general elections. The move followed a 2025 coalition adoption by key figures such as Atiku Abubakar.

While open to expanding the opposition alliance later, the ADC said it would not abandon its platform or defect. Abdullahi described any suggestion of such moves as speculative and preemptive.

The leadership crisis escalated after INEC withdrew recognition of the Mark-led National Working Committee, citing a Court of Appeal order to maintain the status quo. The party maintains it followed due process in its affairs.

Political observers say the development underscores growing tensions in Nigeria’s opposition ranks as the countdown to 2027 intensifies. The ADC vowed to stay focused on reclaiming its mandate through the courts.
