MTN Nigeria has agreed to compensate subscribers affected by poor network services following a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission.
The regulator found that several telecom operators, including MTN, failed to meet required quality-of-service standards between November and January.
According to reports, customers in areas with documented service issues will receive compensation in line with NCC guidelines. MTN confirmed the arrangement, describing it as a clear demonstration that the regulator prioritises consumer interests in its decisions.
The company said the compensation forms part of broader efforts to address service lapses while focusing on long-term improvements. MTN emphasised that its primary objective remains delivering reliable network performance across the country.
As part of this commitment, the telecom operator plans to ramp up investments in infrastructure. These include upgrading network equipment, strengthening systems to minimise outages, and deepening collaboration with tower companies.
MTN noted that rising demand for voice and data services continues to put pressure on existing capacity, making sustained expansion necessary. The company acknowledged ongoing challenges such as infrastructure deficits and external disruptions but assured stakeholders of continued engagement to resolve them.
The NCC has intensified monitoring of telecom operators in recent months to enforce better service delivery nationwide. This development reflects growing regulatory pressure on providers amid complaints from millions of Nigerian users.
Industry experts suggest that increased network investments by operators like MTN could significantly enhance digital connectivity, especially as internet penetration deepens across urban and rural communities.
NaijaChoice News gathered that the move aligns with national efforts to strengthen the digital economy, where reliable telecom services play a critical role in business, education, and governance.
The compensation and planned upgrades underscore the regulator’s determination to hold operators accountable while pushing for improved service quality for Nigerian subscribers.
