IBADAN, Nigeria — Commuters on the Ibadan–Ijebu Expressway are in panic after suspected bandits ambushed travellers on the evening of April 18, 2026, killing one person and abducting several others.

NaijaChoice News gathered from eyewitnesses that the gunmen suddenly blocked vehicles along the busy route near Onigambari area in Oyo State, forcing drivers to stop before dragging passengers into the surrounding bush. One traveller was shot dead during the attack, while an unspecified number were whisked away.

Motorists who escaped the scene abandoned their cars and ran for safety as the assailants operated unchallenged for several minutes. Chaos spread quickly on the highway, with many travellers still missing as families scramble for information.

Security agencies are yet to release a full official statement, though local authorities have been alerted and search operations are said to be ongoing.
