1. Nigeria Borrows N100bn from Unclaimed Dividends, Dormant Accounts

Federal Government has borrowed N100 billion from unclaimed dividends and dormant bank accounts.

Latest figures from the Debt Management Office’s domestic debt stock report list “UFTF FGN Security” at exactly N100 billion as of December 31, 2025. The amount forms just 0.12 per cent of the Federal Government’s total domestic debt, which stood at N80.49 trillion in the same period.

The Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund (UFTF) was created by the Finance Act 2020 to hold idle money from quoted companies’ unclaimed dividends and bank accounts dormant for at least six years. DMO manages the fund with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Any portion invested in government securities counts as public debt.

CROSS RIVER, Nigeria – Armed gunmen abducted at least 15 passengers, many of them JAMB candidates, along the Calabar-Oron waterway on Friday.

The victims were travelling aboard a commercial ferry loaded from Calabar in Cross River State heading to Oron in Akwa Ibom State when the attack occurred.

8. Retired Police Officers Block Aso Rock Gate, Protest Pension Scheme

Retired officers of the Nigeria Police Force and their families, under the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria, on Monday blocked one of the gates at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

9. Gbenga Daniel Daniel Denied Entry At Ogun East APC Meeting

Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria – Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel was barred from an All Progressives Congress stakeholders meeting in Ijebu-Ode on Monday. The former Ogun State governor and current Ogun East senator arrived at Adeola Odutola Hall but could not gain entry despite attempts by his team to negotiate at the gate.

NaijaChoice News gathered that the incident happened amid rising tension between Daniel and Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun. Both men are from Ogun East and are said to be eyeing the senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

10. Mother Dies While Waiting For Daughter At UTME Centre In Ondo

ILARA-MOKIN, Ondo State, Nigeria – Sorrow gripped Ilara-Mokin Junction in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday when a mother collapsed and died while waiting for her child at a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination centre.

Oluwasola Victoria Adebayo had accompanied her daughter to the venue when she suddenly took ill shortly after reaching the junction.
