- Nigerian Christianity Lacks True Father Figure
Rev. Isaac Omolehin, founder of The Word Assembly Churches, has declared that Nigerian Christianity lacks a unifying father figure for all believers.
The Kwara-based evangelist made the statement in a sermon delivered midweek and uploaded to his church’s official YouTube channel. A clip of the message went viral on social media over the weekend, sparking widespread debate.
NaijaChoice News monitored the clip, where Omolehin questioned the frequent reference to certain prominent pastors as “fathers” of the Nigerian Church.
“Nigerian Christianity has no father,” he said. “These are denominational leaders. Christianity in Nigeria has no father.”
He acknowledged the stature of Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, describing him as a successful and respected man of God. But Omolehin insisted Adeboye’s influence stops at the gates of RCCG, just as Pastor William Kumuyi leads Deeper Life and Dr Daniel Olukoya heads Mountain of Fire and Miracles.
The cleric criticised what he called unhealthy rivalry among denominations. He pointed to competition over massive auditoriums and private aircraft, saying such pursuits carry no real spiritual content.
A true father of the Nigerian Church, he argued, must shed all denominational loyalty. Such a figure would care for believers across Roman Catholic, Methodist, Anglican, Apostolic and other fellowships alike.
Omolehin noted that the absence of this unifying voice explains why no church leader speaks authoritatively on issues affecting Christians nationwide. “We have denominational fathers. They are not fathers of all,” he stressed.
The veteran evangelist, who has run crusades and humanitarian outreach for over four decades, ended on a theological note. Denominational tags, he said, will not matter in eternity because all true believers are heading to the same heaven.
