Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a one-term president who will not return to power in 2027.
Sowore made the remark while addressing journalists and supporters in Abuja. He accused the president of “sucking life out of Nigerians” and warned that citizens must fight back to survive the current hardship.
“If he were to come back, I am assuring you, Nigerians, he will not come back. He is a one-term president. That is the truth,” Sowore said. He added that the administration is draining the existence of ordinary people and that resistance is now a matter of survival.
NaijaChoice News reports that Sowore’s outburst reflects the deepening anger across the country over economic pain and unending insecurity since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
The government’s removal of fuel subsidies and unification of foreign exchange rates have driven up the cost of living. Headline inflation rose to 15.38 per cent in March 2026, with food inflation hitting 14.31 per cent, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Prices of petrol, food items and transport have soared. Many families in Lagos, Abuja and rural communities now struggle to buy basic essentials, while wage earners say their salaries no longer match market realities.
Beyond the economy, banditry and kidnappings continue to terrorise several regions. Early this month, gunmen abducted more than 150 residents, mostly women and children, in Zamfara State, forcing villagers to flee their homes.
Sowore insisted that Nigerians have the power to reject Tinubu’s leadership at the polls. He called for collective action to ensure the country exists beyond what he described as a disastrous tenure.
The activist, who contested the 2023 election under the African Action Congress, has repeatedly criticised recycled leadership and vowed to keep pushing for change ahead of 2027.
