ABUJA — Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared that the recent wave of attacks and bomb blasts across the country is politically motivated, aimed at discrediting President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio made the claim yesterday during the commissioning of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) corporate headquarters in Abuja, where President Tinubu officially unveiled the ultra-modern facility. He insisted the unrest is not random but a calculated move by some political actors to distract the government from its reforms.
“You are seeing insecurity today. It is even increasing because elections are coming,” Akpabio told the gathering. He added that the situation would normalise shortly after the polls, predicting that “two weeks after the elections, you may not hear of such incidents again.”
The Senate president argued that the spike in violence stems from growing acceptance of Tinubu’s policies, especially in revenue generation and fiscal reforms. He noted that the President now enjoys the backing of close to 30 governors, up from fewer than 18, a development he said has unsettled opposition figures.
Akpabio expressed strong confidence that Nigerians remain firmly behind Tinubu and would return him to power in 2027. “Nigerians cannot do without you in 2027,” he declared, citing widespread support from stakeholders across party lines.
NaijaChoice News reports that Akpabio used the occasion to defend the administration’s economic measures, including the removal of fuel subsidy and ongoing tax restructuring. He described these steps as essential to stabilise public finances and reposition the economy for long-term growth.
Despite the challenges, he highlighted the delivery of infrastructure projects nationwide. “In less than three years, what we see are projects, projects, and more projects,” Akpabio said, urging patience as the reforms take root.
He assured that the National Assembly would continue to back the President’s agenda while calling on citizens to ignore distractions and focus on the bigger picture of national progress. The event, attended by top government officials and governors, underscored the administration’s push for a more efficient revenue system through the newly established NRS.
