Ogun APC Names Senator Adeola 2027 Consensus Candidate

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, stepped into the spotlight on April 13, 2026, after Governor Dapo Abiodun announced him as the All Progressives Congress consensus candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.

The decision, reached at a strategic caucus meeting in Abeokuta, received backing from heavyweights including former governors Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel. It also fulfilled long-standing demands for power rotation to Ogun West.

NaijaChoice News reports that attention has now turned to the vacancy Adeola will leave in the Senate. The choice of his successor will shape not just representation for Ogun West but also how history remembers the senator’s years in politics.

Party insiders say the move goes beyond filling a seat. It will test whether Adeola can build structures that outlast his personal influence, much like his mentor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has always stressed inclusion and talent grooming.

Three names are already generating serious discussion in Ogun West circles.

Honourable Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, widely known as GNI, brings deep local knowledge and a track record of engaging grassroots voters across the district. He was among those who stepped aside to support the consensus.

Rt. Hon. Olusegun Bolanle Gbeleyi, a former Deputy Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has already declared interest in the Senate seat. His experience spans legislation, power sector consultancy and community development projects in Ado-Odo/Ota and Igbesa axis.

Honourable Adekunle Akinlade, often called Triple A, carries strong name recognition and administrative pedigree. Like Isiaka, he backed the party’s choice of Adeola and has maintained relevance through shifting political seasons.

Analysts note that the eventual pick must balance loyalty, competence and broad acceptance in a zone that is ethnically diverse yet hungry for effective Abuja representation.

Adeola’s own journey—from the State House of Assembly to the Senate and now the governorship ticket—has been built on calculated grassroots work and strategic alliances.

How he handles this succession will signal whether he is ready to distribute power or simply retain control through proxies.

Party faithful and Ogun West residents are watching closely. The decision, expected in the coming weeks, could determine the strength of APC’s structure ahead of the 2027 polls and set the tone for Adeola’s potential governorship.

For now, the senator has yet to publicly comment on preferred successors. But as NaijaChoice News has consistently observed in Ogun politics, such quiet but critical choices often define long-term legacies more than the big announcements themselves.
