Good morning Nigeria. Welcome to the NaijaChoice News roundup of top newspaper headlines in Nigeria for today, Sunday 12th April, 2026.

1. Amupitan’s Past Tweets Show An APC Sympathizer – Kperogi (Photos)

Several verifiable past tweets by INEC chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan from his time as a professor at the University of Jos unmistakably reveal partisan sympathies for the APC and, more specifically, for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. If he has any regard for institutional integrity, he should own up to them, acknowledge the moral burden they place on his office, and resign. I will return to this.

Amupitan’s neutrality has long hovered under a cloud of suspicion, but I deliberately gave him the benefit of the doubt, to the irritation of many who urged me to call him out earlier and who falsely thought my reluctance to criticize him was the result of my having a relationship with him.

2. Activities Of Eze Ndigbo In Foreign Countries Embarrassing – FG

The Federal Government has described the coronation and activities of self-styled Eze Ndigbo in foreign countries as deeply embarrassing.

Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, made the position clear in a statement issued on Thursday. She spoke during the Imeobi meeting, the highest decision-making body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, held in Enugu.

4. Army-Navy Personnel Clash Publicly in Bayelsa During Tinubu’s Visit (Watch)

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State witnessed ugly scenes on Friday when soldiers of the Nigerian Army and naval ratings came to blows in full public view. The confrontation broke out as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was leaving the venue of an official event in the state.

A viral 53-second video now circulating widely shows a driver of a Hilux vehicle marked “Naval Police” exchanging words with another driver before a soldier carrying a rifle stepped forward and threw the first punch. The situation quickly degenerated into a free-for-all, with personnel from both sides trading blows while civilians looked on in shock.

5. 3 Feared Dead As Tinubu’s Convoy Involved In Accident In Bayelsa

Social media platforms are awash with claims that a vehicle in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s convoy rammed into residents in Obogoro community, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Friday.

Eyewitnesses say the incident happened as the presidential entourage left after the inauguration of three legacy projects by Governor Douye Diri.
