Saheed Osupa Admits Using Juju For Success: “It’s Not Good To Be Poor”

Saheed Osupa, the veteran Fuji musician popularly known as King Saheed Osupa, has triggered heated debates across social media after candidly discussing his use of traditional spiritual practices.

The Fuji icon made the remarks during a live performance at the 52nd birthday celebration of Nollywood veteran Fatai Odua, better known as Lalude, held on March 30.

While entertaining guests, Osupa paused to address his backup singers, who appeared to be struggling with their cues. In a mix of humour and seriousness, he urged them to consider spiritual assistance to boost their memory and stage delivery.

He then opened up about his own journey, revealing that he had once been advised to deny using traditional charms in public interviews. Osupa made it clear he rejected that suggestion, insisting there is no shame in such practices when they are not deployed for evil.

“I do it for my own success. I don’t do it to kill or do any bad thing,” he stated, according to the widely circulated video. The 56-year-old musician, who grew up in Ibadan, added that he pays daily homage to Ifa, describing it as a normal part of his routine that supports his progress.

Osupa further questioned what else could guarantee success in life, rhetorically asking if ordinary tablets like Panadol would bring wealth or comfort. He suggested that life is too short to remain in poverty and implied many Nigerians, including public figures, engage in similar traditions privately while projecting strict religious images publicly.

The comments have since divided opinions online. Supporters praise the Fuji star for his honesty and defence of Yoruba cultural heritage, while critics argue that a high-profile entertainer should exercise more caution when addressing sensitive topics of faith and spirituality.

NaijaChoice News reports that the clip has reignited broader conversations within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where success stories often attract speculation about unseen forces. Fuji music, deeply rooted in Yoruba traditions, frequently intersects with debates on religion, culture and personal beliefs.

As reactions continue to pour in from fans and observers, Osupa’s openness has highlighted the tension many artistes face between public perception and private convictions in a deeply religious nation. The matter remains a top trend on platforms, with calls for tolerance on both sides of the divide.
